Lung cancer is characterized by uncontrolled cell growth that begins in the lungs. The majority of lung cancers are caused by smoking but lung cancer can also occur in people who never smoked.

In the earliest stage of the disease, lung cancer typically does not cause any symptoms. Symptoms that occur only later in the disease include coughing, coughing up blood, shortness of breath, weight loss, chest pain and bone pain. Since it is often diagnosed at a later stage, it is the most common cause of cancer-related death.

We at DBI support research activities exploring early diagnosis of lung cancer using state-of-the-art breath analysis. Being able to diagnose this disease early would dramatically increase the survival rate of affected individuals.
